Q: How can you avoid upset stomachs on holiday?
A: Tummy upsets are the commonest health problems affecting travellers and there is no doubt that some people are more prone than others. Dietary change alone can cause problems but a multitude of germs can attack our gastrointestinal systems through contaminated food and water, most often leading to diarrhoea but also to constipation, vomiting and abdominal pain.
We can help to reduce our risks in advance by:
· Be as healthy and well as possible before travelling.
· Consult your own doctor or travel clinic for advice particularly if you suffer from any medical conditions, or are pregnant.
· Consider vaccination against Typhoid and Hepatitis A . These infections are endemic in many warmer climes and even in cooler areas of Eastern Europe. The vaccinations are available separately or together in one jab and are both safe and effective, lasting for 3 and up to 20 years respectively.
· It may help to try a daily portion of a probiotic for a couple of weeks before travel. Short courses have had proven effect in other infection related tummy upsets.

It’s not easy to come to the realisation that your hearing may be in decline even as it starts to deteriorate. Many people try to ignore it, but this is not a good strategy. A loss of hearing all too often results in social isolation.
Most people don’t notice a decline in their hearing right away. They don’t realise that they are turning up the TV volume a bit, or that the birds’ singing sounds a little distant.
But an untreated hearing loss may have serious consequences. It is essential to do something about it. The earlier, the better.
On Tuesday 10th June, Healthy Hearing is running an Open Day where you can talk one-to-one with a fully qualified Registered Hearing Aid Audiologist and discuss any problems you may have. You can take advantage of a free hearing assessment and try out the latest in Bluetooth hearing technology from Switzerland.
There is a prize draw for a Bang & Olufsen BeoSound 1 stereo for all who take advantage of the free Lifestyle Hearing Assessment.

Jive Nites is a dance evening aimed at teaching adults to dance Modern Jive in a very social and fun way. Weekly Wednesday classes recently begun at the refurbished Danish Invader and are already a big success!
Although Modern Jive is a partner dance, one of the great things about Jive Nites is that you don’t need a partner, so people come along to learn and end up forming great friendships. Sara White, the organiser, commented: “On the first night we had people of all ages - our youngest was actually celebrating his 18th birthday and our eldest was enjoying his recent retirement. We had a couple who were looking to learn to dance in preparation for their forthcoming wedding and we had married couples who were looking to start doing something new together, as well as lots of people who came on their own. We had a perfect balance of men and women and everyone said they had a really good time.”

The evening includes Facials, Aromatherapy, Reflexology, Henna Tattoos and Massage.
There will also be bags, jewellery and cosmetics on sale. Come and enjoy a complimentary glass of wine and free entry into the raffle.
