Neat Feet

Feet are one of the most neglected parts of the body – out of sight and out of mind! With a little bit of work in the spring toes can be ready to go, ready for pretty sandals and more exposure in the coming months

Premiere Podiatry and Sports Injury Clinic

Susan Lester, MChS, MGHT, BSc (Hons) Podiatry, Cert. Ed. and HPC registered has a new clinic in Carlby, just outside Stamford, and has a wealth of experience in the treatment of sporting professionals and individuals with general health issues. She aims to provide the very highest standard of treatments to keep your feet healthy and working well for life.

Susan can provide the usual treatments many podiatrists / chiropodists offer, however, as a member of the Guild of Holistic Therapists (MGHT) she is unique in the fact that she can also offer treatments that are chemical free. A synergy of specific oils individually prescribed can also be used to enhance the treatment of sports injuries and aid recovery.

New to the clinic is a “Modern Toe Nail Correction” which provides a prosthetic nail for people who have had a nail removed or have unsightly fungal nails and wish to hide them.

A comprehensive range of treatments is available from routine chiropody, in-growing toenails, verrucae, to pain anywhere in the foot or lower limb. A FREE foot check is also on offer, and if treatment is required, then a convenient appointment can be arranged.

Reflexology: The Foot Garden

Recently there has been a lot in the press about Reflexology, a whole host of positives and life-enhancing benefits combined with the scientific slant. What was clear on meeting Jo Lloyd for my first session was that if I could come away with a fraction of her energy and have some relaxation I would be happy. Having spinal reflexology herself in Australia, after a terrible accident, turned out to be a life-changing experience for Jo. Such were the benefits she decided to completely retrain and embarked on a Physiology degree as well as becoming certified in Spinal Reflexology, Maternity and Taiwanese Reflexology. She is a member of The Association of Reflexologists and initially set up The Foot Garden in London. Luckily she has re-located to the Stamford area, working within The Broad Street Practice.

Much more than just a foot massage, Reflexology is deeply relaxing and very pleasant, except when she came across an area of the body for which she had concern. With strange intuition she told me I hold a lot of tension in my shoulders and neck, my eyes were tired and I must drink more water, apart from that I had good feet!

Reflexology has had proven success in all areas of complementary healthcare for all kinds of conditions. Maternity is a particular passion for Jo. She has helped many pregnant ladies with balance and harmony during pregnancy being able to assist with morning sickness, sleep depravation, digestive complaints and even inducing babies. Visit her website to find out more or telephone to make an appointment – your feet will take care of you!

Does what it says on the tin

As we speed along with ever-busier lives how often do we stop and take time out for ourselves? Stephanie Tenneson and Rosemary Gurner formed Pilates East just outside Stamford offering group and private Pilates and Gyrotonic sessions. Each month they will bring you a 3-minute exercise to calm the mind, relax the body and tone the deep, supporting muscles. Just a little something to make you think. Sometimes, it will emphasise stress reduction and relaxation; sometimes it will focus on the core muscles through Pilates - or Gyrokinesisâ -based movement. You can do each exercise alone, or link them together to create a gentle but effective work-out.

  • Sit comfortably, with your back supported. Close your eyes and notice your breathing - how it happens all by itself, effortlessly.
  • Nature hates a vacuum, and attempts to equalise the air pressure inside you with the air pressure outside; your lungs fill, your diaphragm contracts downwards; as the diaphragm returns to its resting position, the air is gently expelled.
  • Notice the easy rhythmic rise and fall of your chest and tummy. Focus on allowing breathing to happen for you, a gift from the universe outside you to the universe inside you. Notice how calm and relaxing it feels to breathe like this.
